Making a positive difference to the communities in which we work

In 2016 Mears carried out a huge variety of community projects over and above day to day repair work including: tenant DIY training; work experience placements, “trade taster days”; recruiting nine apprentices; Macmillan coffee mornings; sponsoring the EKH garden competition and the Tenant Star Awards; providing 35 hampers for those having Christmas lunch at Age UK; clearing a community garden in Aylesham; adapting a disused garage from which to feed the homeless - and a whole lot more.

In 2017, as well as continuing many of the 2016 activities, Mears is focusing on working with local schools; running workshops that fit with the curriculum but also give advice and guidance about opportunities in repairs and maintenance and apprenticeship vacancies in 2018.

And watch this space – Mears will be running brand new workshops later this year for tenants who would like to try their hand at upcycling furniture.

If you would like more information about Mears Social Value programme or to register your interest in the upcycling furniture workshops call Karen Jewell at Mears on 01227 714510.
