Local Government Transparency Code

Under the Local Government Transparency Code 2014 Local authorities must publish the following information about their counter fraud work:

• The number of occasions that they use powers under the Prevention of Social Housing Fraud (Power to Require Information) (England) Regulations 201432, or similar powers

• The total number (absolute and full time equivalent) of employees undertaking investigations and prosecutions of fraud

• The total number (absolute and full time equivalent) of professionally accredited counter fraud specialists

• The total amount spent by the authority on the investigation and prosecution of fraud, and

• The total number of fraud cases investigated.

East Kent Housing provide housing management services for Dover, Folkestone & Hythe and Thanet District Council’s and Canterbury City Council and help by providing the information above about our officers and the work that they do to help identify and deal with Social Housing Fraud. We also provide the information required under paragraph 58 of the Local Government Transparency Code 2014 about:

• The total number of cases of irregularity investigated
• total number of occasions on which a) fraud and b) irregularity was identified
• total monetary value of a) the fraud and b) the irregularity that was detected, and
• total monetary value of a) the fraud and b) the irregularity that was recovered.

Dealing with Social Housing Fraud by East Kent Housing:

Monetary value of the fraud or irregularity detected is based on:

• annual rent lost by having the wrong tenant in occupation or
• for RTB’s the discount that would have been given if the property had been sold as a consequence of fraudulent application
